Zusammenfassung
Übelkeit (Nausea) ist ein rein subjektives Symptom. Es wird damit das Gefühl beschrieben, das dem Erbrechen (Vomitus, Emesis) vorausgeht. Beim Erbrechen führen repititive Kontraktionen der Bauchmuskulatur zu einer plötzlichen Druckerhöhung, die eine kraftvolle retrograde Entleerung des Mageninhaltes bewirken. Erbrechen ist ein komplexer physiologischer Vorgang, bei dem willkürliche und unwillkürliche Kontraktionen eine Rolle spielen.
Unter Regurgitation versteht man den retrograden Fluss des Speiseröhreninhalts (z. B. Achalasie). Die wilkürliche Regurgitation von Speise durch aktive Kontraktion der Bauchmuskulatur, um sie erneut zu kauen und zu schlucken, bezeichnet man als Rumination. Ruminieren geht nicht mit Übelkeit einher und wird gehäuft bei Kindern und psychisch Kranken beobachtet. Sitophobie beschreibt die Angst vor Schmerzen und Unwohlsein, die mit der Nahrungsaufnahme verbunden werden.
