Abstract
The organization of the Aarhus University Clinic of Surgical Gastroenterology is somewhat unusual. While patients admitted as emergencies are surgical, the out-patient ward receives also large numbers for conservative treatment of gastroenterological disease. The department’s endoscopy unit is central in the Country Hospital System. It has thus been possible to collect series of patients with the same disease treated surgically as well as by conservative means. This has been especially used in relation to peptic ulcer disease.
