Uterus Transplantation

Abstract

After uterus transplantation, the follow-up should be similar after transplantation from deceased or live donor. The length of hospital stay after transplantation is in general 4–7 days, and during this time the patient is monitored with frequent intervals. This article will elaborate on the monitoring of the patients until continued pregnancy is achieved. The primary aim of these controls is to find any pathological condition or signs of rejection/graft failure early so that there will be a chance to correct the condition and to avoid graft failure. The patients will be followed by laboratory blood tests, gynaecological examination, measurement of uterine artery blood flow by Doppler, vaginal bacterial culture and cervical biopsies. The frequency of the follow-up visits will continuously be spaced out if there are no signs of adverse event.
