About the editors

Prof. Li Yun, vice president of Nanjing Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Transport, National Administration of Energy. He is also director of Joint Research Center of Water Science and Engineering (State Level).

Prof. Li Yun has completed and been coordinating over 70 projects, including National Scientific Key Projects of the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Five-Year Plan, State Eleventh Five-year Scientific and Technological Support Project, “13th Five-Year” National Key Research Program of China, National High Tech Development Plan Fund, International Cooperation Special Projects, Three Gorges Project, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Consultative Research of Large Projects, and etc. He has published over 100 reports and research articles. He wrote 5 books and coordinated to complete 2 codes. He won first prize for National Scientific and Technological Progress Award for 1 time, second prize for National Scientific and Technological Progress Award for 2 times, Special Award for Provincial National Scientific and Technological Progress for 3 times. He has registered 12 Chinese invention patents, 13 patents for utility models, and 1 software copyrights. Up to now, there are 3 postdocs, 7 PhD candidates and 8 master students, who have completed their study and obtained the degrees.

HU Yaan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Expert in Navigation Structures. Prof. HU Yaan is Director of Hydraulic Engineering Department of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Transport, National Administration of Energy. He also works as Director of Key Laboratory of Navigation Structure Construction, Ministry of Transport and Chairman of WG 207 Working Group of the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC).
Academician HU Yaan has long been long-term working on the key cutting-edge technologies, research and development of core equipment and major engineering practice of inland waterways and navigation structures. He is the leader in the research field of navigation structures not only in China but also in the world. He has developed the unique super large Unsteady Flow Vacuum Tank facility in the world. He created the technology system of Anti-Cavitation Erosion for the valve. He innovated lock filling and emptying system with high capacity, which broke the through the bottleneck of filling and emptying system with high efficiency in the ultra -high head ship locks. He further developed the theory of hydrodynamic safety control and innovated the multi coupling stability control technology in the shiplifts. Together with his team, he invented a new type of ship lift- hydro-floating shiplift applying water energy as lifting power, which is leading innovative technology of shiplifts’ development in the world.

His research achievements awards include 3 Second Prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress and 1 Second Prize of National Technological Invention as well as 7 Provincial and Ministerial Special Awards and 13 first Prizes. He has been authorized 46 patents and edited 10 industrial codes. He has won the First National Innovation Award, the 13th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, Outstanding Engineer Award and other Honorary Titles, and received the special allowance from the State Council.
