About this book

This book gathers the latest research, innovations, and applications in the field of corrosion prevention and control, as presented by leading national and international academics, researchers, engineers, and postgraduate students at the AWAM International Conference on Civil Engineering 2022 (AICCE’22), held 7th International Corrosion Prevention Symposium for Research Scholars (CORSYM 2021), held as a virtual conference on November 2021. The CORSYM 2021 theme, Nurturing Future Corrosionist for Better Corrosion Mitigation, covered key topics such as corrosion and inhibitors, corrosion of biomaterials, top of line corrosion, H2S and CO2 corrosion, coatings and composites for biomedical devices, electrochemical testing techniques, advanced materials and coatings, corrosion in concrete structures, welding and hot Corrosion, corrosion in ships and marine structures, corrosion of biomaterials, corrosion Under insulation, digitalization in corrosion. The contributions introduce numerousexciting ideas that spur novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaborations between various specialists in the field of corrosion engineering.

About the editors

Azman Jalar is a professor of applied metallurgy at Department of Applied Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology and a Principal Research Fellow at Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. His research interests including structure-properties-performance relationship materials.

Zaidi Embong is a Professor of Applied Physics at Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology (FAST), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). He received his PhD from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom. His expertise is in the field of surface science, and his research focuses primarily on metal surface oxidation studies. He is also well known as an international peer reviewer for several high impact journals such as Applied Surface Science, Elsevier and Journal of Alloys and Compounds, Elsevier, and has received two high prestige awards from Elsevier, "Outstanding Contributions in Reviewing" for both high impact journals. His expertise in advanced surface analysis techniques such as X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and Laser Raman Spectroscopy is one of the key factors recognised by the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) for certification as a Professional Technologist (Ts) in Malaysia. His publications include over 100 papers in Scopus and WOS referred journals. He is currently a Principal Researcher at UTHM's Intergraded Institute of Engineering (IIE).

Norinsan Kamil Othman, PhD, is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), has his expertise in corrosion science. He received the certificate of Professional Technologist from Malaysia Board of Technologists in 2019. He received several awards in research and published more than 150 papers which indexed by Scopus and WOS. He is now the Head of Joint-Lab of DNV-GL@UKM and member of National Association Corrosion Engineers (NACE) International Founding Malaysian Section as known as Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) Malaysia Chapter.

Najmiddin Yaakob is currently a senior lecturer at the School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).  His area of research interest are mainly in the oil and gas pipeline corrosion. He has involved in various pipeline corrosion problem mainly from the oil and gas industries  which includes top of the line corrosion in sweet and sour environment, sour corrosion mechanism, elemental sulfur corrosion in sour glycolic environment, elemental sulfur corrosion mitigation by using sulfur solvent and inhibitor and corrosion inhibitor/coating from palm oil based. He has managed to secure industrial grant and consultation worth of RM 1.1 Million. He is an associate member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), UK, graduate member of Board of Engineer (BEM), former Chairman of National Association Corrosion Engineers (NACE) International Founding Malaysian Section, Head of Industrial Corrosion Research Center (InCORE) and currently the treasurer for The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) Malaysia Chapter.

Maria Abu Bakar is a research fellow at Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She received her PhD in microengineering and nanoelectronics and master’s degree in materials science. Her research interests including electronic packaging and materials especially on interconnection technology such as wire bonding and soldering, reliability, and failure analysis.
