Abstract
The problem of load deformation of the earth is revisited. As an extension of former studies, which dealt with the earth’s surface deformation induced by loading, the deformation inside of the earth is investigated. First, the radial functions of displacement in the earth due to zonal harmonic load of degree n are acquired. With the acquired radial functions and the load Love numbers, the vertical and horizontal components of the inside deformation of the earth due to a circular cap load are calculated. The perturbation in the earth’s rotational inertia tensor associated with this deformation is assessed.
