Abstract

We numerically investigate the InGaAs quantum-well parameters for the design of a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) used for the mode locking of a Yb-doped fiber laser and fabricate the SESAM based on the numerical results. The optical parameters of the SESAM, such as recovery time, modulation depth of reflection, and saturation fluence, are measured. We demonstrate a mode-locked pulse generation from a Yb-doped fiber laser using the fabricated SESAM.
