Simulation of Particle Motion in a Two-Stage Mill

Abstract

Rubber crumb is a disperse material produced by grinding used car tires. It takes the form of irregular granules of size 0.1–7 mm. Rubber waste such as treadmills, rubber mats, and conveyer belts is also used to produce crumb, but worn-out tires predominate. Particle motion in the second stage of a two-stage mill (shredder) is considered. The influence of the following parameters is analyzed: the particle speed, the potential energy, and the rotary kinetic energy. The rotor speed n may be 100 and 150 rpm. Simulation using EDEM software indicates that the performance of the two-stage mill is superior in every respect at n = 100 rpm.
