Abstract
On the profilograms obtained for real surfaces machined by different methods, the microprojections resemble elements of sinusoids and cosinusoids. Accordingly, it is of interest to investigate geometric models of such rough surfaces. The analytical expressions obtained for the probability of filling of the rough surface layer with material permit comparison of the results for microprojections bounded by elements of sinusoids and cosinusoids. The probability characteristics of surface roughness described by different analytical curves are tabulated. Comparison of the probability characteristics indicates that they are significantly different. Hence they may be used for assessment of the surface texture after different types of machining. Analytical expressions for the shape of the profiles in Fourier-series form may be used in developing software for CNC machine tools and 3D printers.
