Estimating the Life of a Machine Part

Abstract

In practice, it is useful to generate quick estimates of the life of engineering systems after changes in the fatigue characteristics of their parts. Various means of rapid estimation are analyzed in the present work. Assessment of the life in terms of the specified probability of fault-free operation is of particular interest. After the use of such rapid methods, the best approach to improving the parts may be identified.
