Change in geometry of a cylindrical blank in upsetting with contact friction

Abstract

The lateral surface distortion of a cylindrical blank during upsetting with contact friction is analyzed. Formulas explicitly describing the change in the convex lateral surface during deformation are obtained for the first time. The accuracy of the formulas is confirmed by comparison with experimental data.
