Abstract
The effect of preheating technology, materials of cathode blocks, and other factors on the integrity of the bottom while using a flame to preheat aluminum reduction cells is investigated. Using mathematical modeling in an ANSYS finite-element package and Star-CD CFD-package, the temperature fields, gas dynamics, and stress-strained state of the reduction cell as the flame burns are investigated. The best way to cover the peripheral seams during preheating is selected.
