Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics Aims and scope

Abstract

Results of investigation of photochromic properties of monolayer of individual 1',3'-Dihydro-1'-hexadecyl-3',3'-dimethyl-6-nitrospiro[2H-1-benzopyran-2,2'-(2H)indole] and its mixtures with cetil alcohol are presented. Transitions between monolayer phase states have been revealed. The formation of J-aggregates of this compound at different spiropyran/cetil alcohol ratio and upon surface pressure alteration has been studied. It has been demonstrated that spiropyran possess photochromic properties in Langmuir monolayers. Obtained results open up wide prospects for the application of spirocompounds for molecular electronics.
