Strength Properties of Glue-Welded Joints at a Negative Temperature

  • Published:
Steel in Translation Aims and scope

Abstract

The effect of negative temperature exerted on the strength properties of glue-welded joints with different types of adhesive materials (epoxy, anaerobic, organosilicon compounds) has been considered. It is shown that regardless of the chemical nature of the used material, the strength of glue-welded joints is greater than the strength of welded ones. It has been established that among all the types of adhesive studied materials, the use of an anaerobic sealant makes it possible to obtain glue-welded joints with the best strength characteristics, as to compare to similar welded ones. The ultralow temperature values (–50°C) not only exert no negative effect on the mechanical properties of glue-welded joints, but on the contrary, they make it possible to increase these characteristics in comparison with similar samples tested at a room temperature.
