Determination of Damage Extent of Backup Roll By Changes in Coercive Force and Hardness of Its Working Surface

  • Published:
Steel in Translation Aims and scope

Abstract

This article presents data on monitoring of the state of working surface of backup roll of rolling mill. In the course of periodic examinations of the monitoring, coercive force and the hardness have been measured. Median basic levels of coercive force and hardness of 45Kh3M1F steel for new roll, as well as rolls with various yield of working surface, have been detected. The distribution pattern of coercive force along working surface of roll has been detected. Its interrelation with the stressed state in contact zone is demonstrated. It has been concluded that the coercive force as the most structure sensitive property of ferromagnetic materials can be used for evaluation of damageability and resource of backup rolls.
