Abstract
The most dangerous type of corrosion in petroleum-product pipeline systems is pitting corrosion. Measurements of the pipe thickness and coercive force permit the description of local catastrophic corrosive failure in such pipelines. Accidents may be prevented by the proposed method of nondestructive weld monitoring and subsequent heat treatment of the pipeline.
