Abstract
The hot strength of coke (CSR) affects blast-furnace efficiency both directly, through the coke’s decrease in piece size within the furnace, and indirectly, through the scope for increasing injected-fuel consumption, the temperature, flow rate, and oxygen content of the blast, and the gas pressure at the charge hole. At OAO Novolipetskii Metallurgicheskii Kombinat, 1% increase in CSR permits 1.1% decrease in coke consumption and 1.2% increase in productivity. With increase in the hot strength, coke’s direct influence on blast-furnace efficiency declines asymptotically. At the same time, there is greater scope for coke conservation and intensification of the blast-furnace processes.
