Localization of plastic deformation and evolution of block structure in submicrocrystalline titanium

Abstract

The plastic deformation of submicrocrystalline titanium is considered. By speckle photography and X-ray diffraction analysis, the distribution of local deformation and elastic stress in the working section of the samples is studied. At the prefailure stage, a site of localized deformation is formed, with maximum components of the distortion tensor. The elastic distortion reaches a maximum at the boundaries of this site and then declines. The size of the crystallites is reduced at the site of localized deformation.
