Shortcomings of the Darcy-Weisbach equation in blast-furnace smelting

Abstract

The Darcy-Weisbach equation is widely used as model of gas motion in the blast furnace, but it was derived for very different conditions. Its use in describing the gas dynamics of blast furnaces distorts the actual gas motion. Much more precise and useful results are obtained on the basis of the molecular-kinetic theory of gases-specifically, by means of the Clapeyron equation of state of an ideal gas.
