Rolling of tall hot strip supplied sequentially to the deformation source

Steel in Translation Aims and scope

Abstract

Rolling of tall hot strip supplied in an end-to-end sequence to the deformation source is simulated by the finite-element method (on the basis of Deform-3D software). This rolling system hinders nonuniform longitudinal motion of the metal end sections, so that reduced metal losses in trimming by the flying cutters may be expected. In addition, strip capture is less frequent, and hence there are fewer impact loads in the primary line within the mill.
