Abstract
On the basis of a mathematical model, blast-furnace performance is analyzed as a function of the utilization of the furnace gas’s reducing capacity ηac in the indirect reduction of ferrous oxide. Economic analysis of the reducing processes is based on the consumption V s of reducing gas per unit atomic oxygen in wustite. The influence of the gas’s attainment of equilibrium composition on the furnace performance is assessed by means of V s -ηac plots.
