Abstract
The efficiency of calcium introduction in steel is determined from tests in which 08, and steel is treated with silicocalcium powder wire in a 320-t steel-casting ladle, so as to ensure the best performance of a continuous bar-casting machine. The assimilation of calcium mainly depends on the oxidation of the slag: other conditions being equal, calcium assimilation is most complete and stable with <2.0% (FeO) in the slag and >0.015% Al in the metal. In these conditions, the consumption of the silicocalcium powder wire is unchanged.
