The research here outlined relies on the pioneering work of N.A. Voronova, a distinguished Ukrainian scientist whose leadership and direct participation were essential to the development of a magnesium reagent in the 1970s. The basic components of the equipment and technology for the desulfurization of hot metal were developed in that research. These developments, at various metallurgical enterprises within the Soviet Union, are covered by domestic and foreign patents. They provided the basis for the creation of highly efficient automated new systems for the desulfurization of hot metal by magnesium in ladles of different capacity. In the last decade, this technology, characterized by excellent technological and economic performance, has been introduced at more than 50 foreign desulfurization units.
