Determination of the interaction parameter χ in the Flory-Rehner equation for coal swelling processes

Abstract

The correction factor χ of the Flory-Rehner equation, which takes into account the influence of the specific interaction of components on the degree of swelling, depends on the nature of a penetrant. It was found that the relationship between the value of χ and the physicochemical properties of solvents could be established by means of linear multiparameter equations. In the case of Rawhide coal, the cohesion energy density and the capability of penetrant for specific salvation are the determining factors.
