Abstract
The results of advanced study of the chemical nature of asphaltites from Rafaelita and Toribia fields, as well as the composition and structural features of their malthene, asphaltene-carbene, and carboid components are presented. It was found that the structural units in the molecules of isolated compounds are primarily based on fused tetra-and pentacyclic aromatic nuclei, of which about half are spatially arranged in prototurbo stacked particles framed in developed naphthene and/or paraffin strictures that include up to 6 fused saturated rings or up to 40 carbon atoms in weakly branched aliphatic chains, respectively. Sulfur and oxygen atoms that are in abundance in the products examined occur in polyarene rings as the thiophene and furan heterocycles, respectively, and in sulfide and ester bridges that link structural blocks of molecules. The presence of developed spatially disordered molecular fragments, which make up about 60% of carbon atoms in the asphaltite composition, suggests these substances to be candidates for practical use in the manufacture of liquid motor fuels.
