Abstract

A parameter (B, %) that characterizes the extent of chemical reduction of the carbon skeleton of arbitrary organic entities containing C, H, N, O, and S atoms is proposed for quantitative description of coals of different genetic types in terms of the degree of reduction in the framework of the structural-chemical classification of fossil fuels. According to the values of B, the groups of coal macerals are arranged in the order: liptinite L > vitrinite Vt > inertinite I; of the Vt group macerals, the order is collinite Vtc (VtB, desmocollinite) > telinite Vtt (VtA, telocollinite). The degree of reduction of equally metamorphized coals of similar petrographic compositions is determined by the ratio between vitrinite macerals with different degrees of reduction.
