Abstract
The trichomes of two problematic complexes in the genusCheilanthes were studied. In one group, the trichomes ofC. tomentosa are long, multicellular, uniseriate, and flat whereas those ofC. chipinquensis are similar but somewhat cylindrical. In the other group,C. microphylla andC. alabamensis cannot be separated on the basis of their trichomes alone whereas the trichomes ofC. aemula differ from those of the other two by being more acicular and in lacking a bulbous tip.
