Abstract
Due to information and communication technologies, the scenarios where participation happens are increasing. But solely with neatly designed information systems, a meaningful participation can be achieved. The following contribution derives important problems, conditions and success factors from the most diverse forms and explanatory approaches from what is now called participation. In contrast to this, we present tools, features and concepts for information systems and shows how these problems can reduce participation and increase the chances of success.
