Abstract

The critical behavior and phase diagrams of the ferromagnetic mixed spin-1/2 and spin-1 Blume–Capel model in a transverse crystal field are studied on a hypercube lattice using the mean-field approximation based on the statistical Bogoliubov inequality for the free energy. The effects of longitudinal and transverse crystal fields on the magnetizations and phase diagrams of the system are examined. First- and second-order phase transitions with tricritical points are found for some parameters of the system Hamiltonian. Furthermore, interesting results arise from the quantum fluctuations caused by the presence of the transverse crystal field.
