Weight variations in newborn domestic pigs and the adaptation process

  • Published:
Russian Journal of Genetics: Applied Research

Abstract

This paper shows that weight dynamics in newborn domestic pigs reflect adaptive changes in the gene pool of the population. Our results show that coordination of the gene pool with altered environmental conditions in domestic pigs may be a long process. It includes at least two periods in which different selection vectors act. A positive link between weight at birth and weight in maturity is formed in the first period, while in the second period that link is destroyed.
