Screening of Capsicum annuum var. annuum L. for early ripening

Abstract

Screening of the duration of the vegetation period has been performed in a collection of Capsicum annuum var. annuum L. including more than 350 cultivars, and reliable and versatile donors of the feature have been detected. The advantage of the variety type Fasciculatum Sturt with regard to early and uniform ripening has been confirmed. The correlations between phenophase duration, fruit inception, and fruit growth rate have been determined with higher accuracy. The donors detected in the populations of plants belonging to Grossum L. (Sendt), Longum D.C., and Fasciculatum variotypes have been differentiated according to the adaptability of the “early fruiting” and “phenological phase duration” features. Background parameters of the environment for selection according to fruit yield and early ripening have been determined.
