Abstract

The market for rare-earth elements (REEs) and REE catalysts is analyzed. Essential data on the REE deposits in Russia and the world are given. The use of REEs is analyzed with emphasis on the production of magnets and catalysts. Some data on the fields of the application of REE catalysts, e.g., the purification of vehicle exhaust gases, catalytic cracking, hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, hydration, dehydration, steam, carbon dioxide, and oxidative conversion of methane, waste water treatment, are given. It is concluded that the development of the production of REE catalysts could lead to breakthroughs in the field of creating low-temperature, energy-saving catalytic processes.
