Abstract

Information on the syntheses of sulfur-containing heterocycles involving thiols is systematized and generalized. Data on biological action of some among these systems are mentioned.

Ivan Koval’ was born in 1942 in a settlement Podgornoe, Dnepropetrovskaya oblast’. In 1967 he graduated from Dnepropetrovsk Institute of Chemical Technology, Candidate of Sciences since 1970, Doctor of Sciences since 1987, Academician of the Ukrainian Tecnological Academy since 1995. I.V.Koval’ heads the Chair of the Chemical Technology of Macromolecular Compounds of the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology.

The field of scientific interests: the organoelement chemistry and the chemistry of macromolecular compounds. The main scientific achievements are the discovery, development of generation methods, and detailed investigation of characteristics of α-sulfenyl-N-anions. He is author of over 200 scientific publications, among them 20 reviews on the modern problems of the organoelement chemistry.
