Temperature-concentration oscillations associated with structural state of solutions

Abstract

Crystal-solution phase equilibria in aqueous solutions of salts (NH4NO3, NaNO3, KNO3, RbNO3, K2SO4, K2CrO4, KBr, and NaBr · 2H2O) in the range of saturation temperatures 5–50°C (concentrations 0.6–34.3 mol in 1 kg of water) were studied in detail. Multiple disturbances (oscillations) of the concentration dependence of saturation temperatures accompanied by regular pH and light scattering oscillations were revealed. The most essential oscillations or their groups are associated with rather simple molar ratios of components. The oscillations are due to the microheterogeneity of solutions, including that caused by the formation of structured aggregates of the crystal hydrate type.
