Abstract

The electrical interaction of a non-relativistic point particle (charge, dipole) with a flat metal surface has been studied in the case of lateral particle motion in vacuum with a constant velocity. A new representation of attractive and friction forces has been obtained in the in the continuous medium model for metals. For fast particles moving close enough to the surface, the repulsive interaction has been detected in the Drude model.
