Abstract
The mechanism for the formation of micellar aggregates in a nonpolar medium is studied by computer simulation. Using the method of molecular dynamics in the NVT-ensemble, at 300K, the behavior of surfactant particles is simulated under two approximations, namely, a simplified model of two-centered surfactant ion and a coarse-grained model of aerosol OT. The simulation results indicate that the mechanism of micellization is different from that in aqueous surfactant solutions. At a preliminary stage, aggregates are formed with a structure resembling branched chains.
