Abstract
Slight damage to the fiber is modeled by an increase in absorption at the site of finite length. Introduced laser power heats this site. Because of the inverse relationship between heat and absorption, the instability can develop, leading to breakdown. The critical parameters of the instability development are found. The formation of modes of heat waves, including their phase varieties, are investigated.
