Abstract

This work is devoted to studying the parameters of the cathode spot of a vacuum arc. According to calculations under conditions of autoelectronic emission, the temperature of the cathode spot is T n = (1–2.5) × 103 K, the electric-field strength is E = (1–6) × 107 V cm−1, and the current density in the spot is j n = (0.15–3) × 107 A cm−2. The values of the cathode-spot parameters for cathodes of different materials are obtained and the type of electron emission is determined.
