Abstract

Optimal parameters for a data storage system based on ferromagnetic particles and magnetic force microscope (MFM) are calculated. The conditions necessary for data recording, storing, and reading are analyzed in the frame of a simple model of a spherical MFM probe and an array of spherical single-domain particles. The ultimate data densities in such a system are estimated.
