Abstract

The kinetics, thermodynamics, and mechanisms of two catastrophic copper oxidation stages, fast and superfast, are considered for the example of the Cu-Bi2O3 system, whose behavior most completely corresponds to that of other systems. The fast stage was shown to involve the formation of a liquid-channel grain boundary structure in the protective oxide layer, and the superfast stage, the solution of the protective oxide layer.
