Abstract
The results of the study of factors affecting the duration of short-term storage of sperm of sturgeons (Acipenseridae) have been presented, using the example of the Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii, as well as morphological, biochemical and functional changes in sperm during such storage. Various short-term storage conditions were created, in which the storage temperature was 5–20°C, the spermatozoa concentration was 0.29–2.86 billion/mL, and the oxygen concentration was 2–12 mg O2/L. It has been established that by adjusting the temperature, the spermatozoa concentration, as well as the level of oxygen saturation of spermatozoa, it is possible to extend the viability of spermatozoa up to 10 days. However, the control of these parameters did not allow influencing the antioxidant activity, the growth of morphological abnormalities and heterotrophic protists in sperm. As a further direction in the development of methods for short-term storage of sturgeon sperm, it is recommended to search for safe preservatives that do not have toxic and mutagenic effects on spermatozoa.
