Abstract

Binuclear lanthanide complexes with cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6]), [{Ln(H2O)6}2(μ-CB[6])]Cl6·nH2O (Ln = Yb(1), Eu(2), Tb(3)), are prepared by evaporating a solution containing lanthanide chloride and cucurbit[6]uril. The XRD data for the single crystal of 1 show that the metal in this compound is connected to the macrocycle due to the bidentate coordination of oxygen atoms of cucurbit[6]uril portals to lanthanide(III) cations, leading to the formation of a cationic complex. In the crystal, the [{Ln(H2O)6}2(CB[6])]6+ cations are interconnected by a system of hydrogen bonds. Compounds 13 are isostructural. The studied compounds are characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and elemental analyses, X-ray powder diffraction, and luminescence spectroscopy.
