Abstract

A method for the formation of unpolarized electromagnetic waves is considered. The analysis of the measurement error of the Stokes parameters of a scattered radio wave during external calibration of a radar polarimeter using unpolarized probing radio signals has been carried out. The design of a diode waveguide-planar shaper, which has a high switching speed (1 μs) when performing discrete polarization modulation of probing radio signals in the 3-cm range is described. The design of the switched waveguide modulator, which forms powerful unpolarized radar signals, is described. The operating characteristics of polarization modulators that are connected to a pulsed microwave generator with a peak power of 9 kW are given.
