Stabilization of the α-YF3 structure type by isomorphous substitutions

  • Published:
Inorganic Materials Aims and scope

Abstract

The incorporation of manganese difluoride as a heterovalent additive into an α-(Yb1–ySc y )F3 solid solution has made it possible to stabilize a solid solution with the α-YF3 (α-UO3) structure. The 573-K ionic conductivity of Yb0.49Sc0.26Mn0.25F2.75 is σ = 3 × 10–5 S/cm, with an activation enthalpy for ion transport ΔHσ = 0.6 eV (523–767 K).
