Inorganic Materials Aims and scope

Abstract

Highly porous ceramics based on a niobium-tantalum carbide solid solution of composition Nb0.3Ta0.7C, with a density of 2.70 ± 0.02 g/cm3, total porosity of 77%, and compressive strength in the range 1.5–2.3 MPa have been produced at a temperature of 1400°C by a polymer process using low hydrated hydroxide of niobium and tantalum, with the general formulaNb0.3Ta0.7O0.5–2.0(OH)4–1 · 1.5–3.0H2O, as a filler of a polymer material.
