Abstract

It is shown that the indirect coupling between two-level optical systems through a radiation field has the form of the Ising exchange interaction if the coupling between atoms and the field is conducted through electric quadrupole interactions. The manifestation of the paired interaction between two-level systems in the form of a nonuniform optical transition width and in the kinetics of nonequilibrium optical processes is considered.
