Abstract

The relaxation zone of a low-intensity molecular beam in a gas at rest is investigated in detail by Monte Carlo simulation. It is established that the degradation of such beams is accompanied by strong shock effects which are manifested in the formation of zones where the temperature is much higher than that of the background gas.
