Temperature dependence of the ion yield in electron-stimulated desorption

Abstract

A relaxation model of electron-stimulated desorption is used to derive an analytical expression for the temperature coefficient of the yield of ions desorbed by a reverse-motion mechanism. An analysis is made of the thermal vibrations of adatoms with a temperaturedependent amplitude. The results of the calculations performed for the desorption of Na+ ions from the surface of a silicon monolayer deposited on a tungsten substrate show good agreement with experimental results.
