Variations of the local impurity-center structure in phase transitions in CsSrCl3:Gd3+

Abstract

EPR spectra of four triclinic centers have been studied in the second low-symmetry phase of CsSrCl3. An analysis of the spin Hamiltonians obtained permitted determination of the angles of turn of the principal fine-structure tensor axes associated with the phase transitions, which in some cases can be related with rotation of the chlorine octahedra, as well as provided an insight into the character of deformation the octahedra undergo. The angles of turn of the chlorine octahedra in the paraphase has been estimated experimentally.
