This issue of Knowledge Management Research & Practice (KMRP) is a Special Issue on ‘Knowledge As An Object’. My thanks go to the Guest Editors Ettore Bolisani, Stefano Borgo and Alessandro Oltramari for all their hard work in bringing this issue to fruition. As you will see from their Guest Editorial and the Special Issue papers, while knowledge can usefully be viewed as an object in many contexts, this is far from being the only way to look at knowledge, let alone the best way in all circumstances, as some people in the knowledge management field once thought. One of the key objectives of KMRP is to ensure that a multi-faceted view of knowledge continues to be taken forward in research and practice. Identifying how effective different views of knowledge are in various contexts helps us move forward on this agenda.

In this issue, we also list those who reviewed papers for KMRP in 2011, a year in which more papers were submitted for review than ever before. The quality of articles published depends to a great extent on the work of these volunteers who contribute to the double-blind peer review process. KMRP literally could not exist without them, and I am personally grateful to every single one.
